SIL

SIL Facilitation

A SIL study is a structured and systematic examination of the SIF’s that are present in a process design. The study examines the hazardous scenario that the SIF is designed to protect against. This includes likelihood analysis, identifying initiating events and  independent layers of protection. This is combined with a consequence analysis to identify any residual risk compared to the risk targets. The appropriate SIL level is assigned to reduce the residual risk to meet the target.

The course covers a range of risk assessment techniques - LOPA (order of magnitude and advanced), Risk Graph and Risk Matrix.

The objectives of the SIL facilitators course are to develop the skills necessary to organise and lead a SIL study, develop an awareness of the factors that influence the performance of the SIL study team and to challenge existing practices or confirm the status quo at your facility.

Every course attendee will have the opportunity to lead, scribe and critique a workshop SIL study.
